ONE - Goddess

Hey all!! Welcome to 2010!

Hope the year has started off well for all of you!!

As you know, I started off the year with a wedding! Not mine of course! LOL

For this wedding, I decided to make a dress for it.. and I think this will be the “ONE - Goddess” … it was actually going to be really experiemental.. but like all things creative, it never really turns out the way you want it to on the first go.

So for this dress.. in my head it was going to be really geometric and rigid.. but what happened was, it turned out to be more fluid and flowly..

When people design, especially on the stand, it’s not a matter of what the designer wants, but more of what the fabric says. This piece of fabric was very fluid, very flowy and it just would not work it if I made the dress geometric.

So how did I go by making this dress..

I started off with the basic structure of the dress which was going to be a corset like inner bit and then build the dress on top.

The pattern I used was something I quickly drew up in the past, thinking that I would be able to get the look I wanted to create. WRONG! So WRONG!

I wanted to insert cups in the bustier… but it didn’t work.. the measurements were wrong and the cups were toooo wide! :(

I made the bodice in curtain fabric, just for it’s strength and thickness.. I guess I was really looking to quickly get it done so that I can start playing on the stand.

So … the stand… A process of folding and pinning where I think the dress needed to be pinned and .. folded.. lol

Full length of the assymetry.. and a close up of the folding and pinning.. And yes.. that’s my laptop in the background! :D

So what I ended up with was this cross over, pleated assymetrical dress with a back cawl. I liked the cawl at the back. It reminded me of the big victorian like dresses.

The I thought to balance the dress, I’d add in a blue bow at the back… to me it looked realllly KAWAII!! But that was something I could consider AFTER i hand sew everything down.. Yes HAND SEW!

So .. from here.. I thought.. it need something around the waist. I though about colourful ribbon.. it would sort of tie in the flowers from the bottom to the top.. but at the same time.. it looked a bit too much.. the simplicity of the dress I thought was enough to make the dress aesthetically pleasing.

Although, I still did want to get some sort of band or tie to make the cawl stand out more at the back. See without it, I look pregnant.

Ok, bad quality photos now.. (camera died so resorted to phone). See the definition and shape created if the back was pushed in!! :D (yes, taki is in the background!)

So thinking thinking… what to do… I tried to put  the blue satin around the waist, but it was too much of a contrast..

I needed it in olive, just like the same olive as the stems.. Couldn’t find it.. but found the next best thing..

and VOILA!

This is what it turned out to look like!
